The Preisdent of the United States has fair been acussed by a “Firefly Girl” of dismal advances to her, moral in the Oval Office, no less. The narrative is about to atomize, and all hell will wreck loose. The President has 11 days until election day to catch the Public’s favor in order to regain re-election. What to do? It’s time to call in the spacious guns.Enter “Mr. Fix-it”. He will effect a toddle on the situtation that will select care of everything.Sound familiar? Art imitating life? Or could it be the other blueprint around, as Hollywood meets Washington for a poltical satire, that may not be so far off atrocious.
Robert DeNiro heads an all star cast as Conrad Brean, the most sought after spin-doctor in D.C. He always”working on it”, as he heads the public off the abominable publicity and onto the President’s campaign roam.He hires a vast time Hollywood Producer(Dustin Hoffman) to “Gain” a war. Who will we go to war with? How bout Albania? Albania????,you ask. Why Albania? Well.. why
not? And this is not to be some tiny Independant production. This will be huge time. Like the grand Hollywood studios, they pull out all the stops. Complete with a theme song, logos, a hero and some vast publicity. If things seem to be going evil, i.e., the opposition and the C.I.A. are on to them, don’t exertion cause Connie “Is working on that”.

The film is large fun and is loaded with talent.A sizable screenplay as expected from David Mamet and Hilary Henkin. At the helm is the unbelievable Barry Levinson, and also lending their charms are Anne Heche, Denis Leary, Woody Harrelson, Willie Nelson,William H Macy, Craig T. Nelson and Kirsten Dunst.
All this fun is presented on a terrific DVD. The characterize(widescreen or fullscreen) and colors qualities are salubrious. The sound in Dolby Dig 5.1(English or French) very safe. Tons of extras. Commentary, featurettes, an essay, and filmographies.
Enjoy and don’t sweat the politics..cause..”Connie’s working on

Primary ColorsA lot of people knocked this film for being a rip-off of modern events. Nothing could be further from the truth! What makes this satire so unbelievable is that its all coming honest. For example:

1) This movie was made BEFORE the lewinsky/clinton scandal but the details were frighteningly similar
2) It told us the war of the future would be against dissident terrorists plotting against the US from camps in some remote country…years before we had heard of al Qaeda, 9/11, or a war in afghanistan
3) Watching Willie Nelson leading the 9/11 Tribute to Heroes telethon in singing “God Bless America” seemed like it was a rip-off of this movie.

To many, the premise of this movie may have seemed absurd when it was released. But each passing year reveals how closer it is to the truth than we judge. For a scary, thought-provoking satire of Hollywood and Washington, check this movie out.
If it was a 2002 film, people would say it was a clever satire. That it was made in 1997 qualifies it as an absolute classic.

“Grey Gardens” is a one-of-a-kind documentary exploring a mother-daughter relationship. These aren’t unbiased two anonymous people though; instead, the film chronicles Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, “Tiny Edie,” who impartial happen to be the aunt and cousin of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The filmmakers, Albert and David Maysles, initially intended the film to be about Jackie’s sister, Lee Radziwill. However, after being introduced to Edith and Shrimp Edie by Lee, they decided to shift the focus.

What makes these two women so intelligent? First, they live in a giant decaying mansion (the titular “Grey Gardens”) in luxurious East Hampton. The family was extremely wealthy at one time, until Edith divorced and lost most of her money. She apparently stayed in the 28-room Grey Gardens mansion despite a lack of money for upkeep. The women note pictures of themselves from years earlier, and they were obviously resplendent society scions. However, they became more and more isolated from society as they hunkered down into their mansion At one point, the mansion was even raided by East Hampton officials, who wanted to evict the pair due to the unsanitary living conditions. Jackie subsequently helped them super up the mansion.
All of this action, though, occurs before the film starts in 1975 (some of the aid chronicle is presented in pictures and newspaper stories) . In fact, in the documentary, not mighty original happens: the women continue their bizarre existence in the mansion and argue. They argue a lot. Every conversation is filled with their remembrances of better times, when Limited Edie was desired by wealthy men and Edith carried on an affair with a pianist. This life is so far removed from their recent surroundings, and their regrets about that disparity speedy surface. Apparently, Cramped Edie had been living in NYC in the 1950s, before her mother had her reach assist home to buy care of her. This plot was only supposed to be for a short time, but 24 years later, they are unexcited at Grey Gardens and arguing.

Although the movie focuses on relatives of a very famed woman, the themes of living in the past and experiencing regret are so universal. The women have in many ways a typical mother-daughter relationship, but it’s also so atypical. Quite simply, they live a rather deluded existence, arguing so passionately about past events as though it composed mattered or was in the explain. Neverthless, the women are appealing on so many levels, including Edie’s fashion style. Throughout the film, Edie models numerous outfits that she’s created, all accompanied by a turban. Whether she’s bald or fair loves turbans is never explored. Funnily, Edie’s bizarre style has become somewhat of an ironic fashion inspiration; the DVD even features Todd Oldham explaining that he has actually customary Edie’s fashion sense while designing a number of outfits!
Some people have criticized this documentary for a variety of reason, including calling the filmmakers exploitative. I don’t assume that the Beales were exploited – they are both quick-witted although somewhat deluded women and likely understood the implications of participating in this filming. Others have said that the material is somewhat suspect – are the Beales “splendid” of a documentary? That’s a judgment call each viewer will need to obtain. I enjoyed it – the film is like nothing else I’ve ever seen. Although the Beales are deluded at times, their relationship is like a Tennessee Williams play sprung to life! I wasn’t able to turn away, and I know that these women will stick with me for a long time. Most highly recommended.
The DVD extras include unique trailers and a spellbinding commentary track featuring the Maysles and their associates. They enjoy in many of the blanks about the film. Fortunately, the DVD includes subtitles, as the women constantly talk over each other during their arguments. You needn’t miss a single word of this hypnotic documentary.
This stellar portrayal of two women, a mother and daughter, who exhaust their days in a accelerate down house and are ironically aunt and cousin to Jackie O, displays documentary film-making at its very best. Although powerful has been said about the film, the focus always tends to emphasize the sordid living conditions that Edith Bovier Beale and her unmarried daughter, Shrimp Edie inhabit, in an archaic estate in Easthampton, Original York. Their house has been condemned by officials in Easthampton, and they live with cats and raccoons, but they don’t give a damn about it. They are virtual recluses in their upscale community, “tubby of noxious Republicans.” However, the film is not about the squalor that most of us would balk at in passe situations. Their surroundings are only a backdrop and metaphor for the lost opportunities, and isolation that the women are subjected to as societal outcasts. Whether this is by choice, or due to their eccentricities is a mixed bag, but “Mountainous Edie” and “Small Edie” are such magnetically charged women, it is handsome to say that they are their contain superstars within the world they have created.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Grey Gardens / The Beales of Grey Gardens – Criterion Collection! Click Here
Much of the film’s pathos is magnified by the mother and daughter relationship. Exiguous Edie, once a pleasing, shining young woman feels she has been forced to sacrifice her life and a potential career as an entertainer, to spy after her mother. Gargantuan Edie, once a veritable beauty in her day, was written out of her father’s will for her aspirations to become a singer, and after her divorce retreated to her sea-side estate to employ the rest of her days. It is apparent that both women are extremely co-dependent, but in spite of their inherent needs to notice after each other, Dinky Edie is fat of resentment over the plan. She points this out again and again, letting us know that when she is with her mother, she doesn’t feel like a woman, but rather a slight girl. However, both have clearly been dominated by strict, notable male figures in their pasts, and they do relish a sense of freedom and independence in their solitude, even if it comes at the expense of their abilitiy to inhabit the outside world. Runt Edie insists throughout the film, that she must gather out and go to Modern York, “My days at Grey Gardens are slight” she tells the Maysles’ camera crew, who represent every nuance with objectivity, and a enthusiastic gape for descriptive detail of both women and their wonderful legend.
This is a complex yarn, and it unfolds with brilliant, and often hilarious dialogue from both Ample and Miniature Edie. Miniature Edie’s sense of fashion is truly “revolutionary” and has been copied and imitated by several designers. Mountainous Edie is more staid, she has “had her cake, eaten it, chewed it, masticated it” while Small Edie emerges as a thwarted Goddess, who feels she never even got a bite of the cake, so to bellow. She proclaims herself to be the “greatest dancer in the world” yet alone in the house with her mother, their is no other audience for her to creatively conquer. We peruse her, and we are captivated by her, and we procure what she tells us, because she is so emotive and unprejudiced.
Fiction could never fully seize the beauty and the sadness that this film evokes. Although we treasure to laugh with it, it is also a poignant legend, magnifying moments in Gigantic Edie and Cramped Edie’s lives with uncanny depth and awareness of the subjects. It is simultaneoulsy lyrical, comic and shaded. Those who belief it and do not understand that this is a masterpiece, are missing the point of this work. And what is that point? I contain it circles around the choices that are made for us, the choices we do invent, and the choices we don’t manufacture, and how our fates are are affected by these events.

I give “Grey Gardens” six stars, and I hope you be pleased it. It is a film that can be viewed several times, and there is always something recent to search for every time it is screened.

Battery life is unreal

Have been using the system for about a week. The battery life is unreal. With wi-fi on I get about 8+ hours, with wi-fi off the system says it can go 12+ hours and I believe it. recharge is fast as well.
The screen is very bright although i would have spent more to get 1280 wide rather than 1024. Screen reclines way back so its fine for just about any viewing position.
The body is plastic but feels very solid – no flex like I noticed in some of the ASUS netbooks.
Speakers are fine for everyday use. Haven’t used the mic or speaker out jacks.
System is very light, and the charger is far lighter than I expected.
Trackpad is very responsive although I haven’t mastered the zoom in and out gestures. The left and right click thing is a little stiff and takes some getting used to. I don’t really like the keyboard style. It has teh flat keys with very little room in between and I’m having some problems gettign used to it rather than a standard PC keyboard (hence all the spelling mistakes in this review). that said the keys are very well arranged and none of teh common keys are hard to find or require complex ALT-FN-CTRL-SHIFT type combinations.
Keep in mind that this is a netbook, not a desktop replacement. The machine can get a little slow, usually if you are working in Internet explorer – this machine is going to have be seriously tryign out other, lighter weight, browsers.
this machine would get five stars except for the keyboard, which is a matter of personal typing style. If you are looking to all day battery life for non heavy duty computing then this machine is perfect.
Everything I wanted in a netbook

Great little netbook, first thing I did was pop in a 2GB dimm. Very easy to access memory and hard drive on this model as you do not have to remove the keyboard like have to do on some other models (Asus, Dell, Samsung etc)There has been some controversy over what memory that Acers will run on…on a gamble I bought 2GB of memory G.Skill F2-5300CL5S-2GBSK Zero issues, booted right up had to do nothing in Bios.
Pros: Silver color (not a finger print magnet on the outside)
Bluetooth
10 hour battery(probably won’t get that long but maybe close)
Windows XP
Ease of access to hard drive to swap out if you want to
FAST with 2GB upgrade
Great WebcamCons: Not really any, just observations
Glossy screen reflects a bit but don’t all glossy screens?
Inside is the fingerprint magnet but not a big deal at all to meHad originally bout a 14″ Thinkpad for an upcoming trip but decided it was still to bulky to bring with me. This netbook will accomplish all that I need for the next few months. Highly recommend!
Exactly What I Needed! Perfect for On-the-Go.

This has been the perfect on-the-go machine for me. I’m a student at a technical college and this little computer has been such a help. I’ll admit, I’m not very technologically inclined (hence going to tech school), but I’ve found my Acer to be very user-friendly. If you’re used to a desktop or a larger laptop, the small screen takes some adjustment. To me, the portability is worth the small screen. I was concerned that the keyboard would be too small, but I’ve had no trouble. The battery life has been more that I’d hoped. With moderate use, I’ve gone four days without having to charge the battery. Also, I’ve not experienced any issues while running multiple programs. My Acer has been the perfect extension of my home PC. I’ve been using it for a month and I still love it.The Universe Seasons 1-3 Streaming

The Universe Seasons 1-3 is available for streaming or downloading.
Is a broad documental with excellents graphics, well explained maybe too long in some repetitive episode. It could be better with subtitles and other languages like Spanish.
The Universe offers hope that the History Channel’s weekly programming can advance beyond age venerable conflicts and historical happenings to give the cable viewing public something fresh. Specials on Hitler and Mussolini can have daunting titles like “The Shaded Wages of War” or “The Dangerous Age of Holocaust”, but do these really compare to titles like “Secrets of the Sun”, “The Most Unsafe Dwelling in the Universe”, “Supernovas”, “Cosmic Apocalypse” and, who can resist a title like this, “Sex in Status”. David X. Cohen, producer of Futurama, once postulated that adding the word “set” to any word makes it funnier and better. The Universe benefits from and proves this theory simultaneously.

The Complete Season One
The premier season of the series stays mainly within the confines of our solar system and offers an episode on each of the planets, the sun, the moon and a few other topics. The season is at its best when it takes on a single planet and examines it from every angle and nothing else. For that matter, the episodes that handle two or more planets (“The Outer Planets”) also have their moments, but when they lump in Pluto, Neptune and Uranus honest to achieve region in the season you feel like you’re getting gypped on the beefy treatment the planet deserves. Except for Pluto…which is apparently lucky to have been included at all, awful guy.

The Complete Season Two
Each of the 18 episodes tackles a different topic; from “Alien Planets” to the harrowing prospects of “Cosmic Apocalypse” the show’s ability to occupy your attention never fails. To believe that the discovery of a novel earth is end to a reality should intrigue even the most diehard skeptics, especially in this field which seems to generate more questions than answers. Or maybe you’re more fervent in the future of region move or colonization? Sunless holes? Or, my personal accepted title “Biggest Things in Region”? Reach on, if you aren’t slightly alive to in the biggest things in that final frontier then you objective can’t be happy. The History Channel has a really expansive thing going with this series and the second season keeps the shuffle with a nice supply of educational installments.
The Complete Season Three
The third season reels itself wait on in terms of the number of episodes going from the second season’s 18 to a mere 12 – so to maintain up the skedaddle of this splendid series they gave us a season of stout and above par episodes. “Sex in Situation”, it’s long been considered the final frontier for anyone who ever found their draw into the Mile High Club and then wanted something more. But really, who hasn’t notion of it? Well, after this episode it’ll be hard to conclude thinking about it…don’t reflect. The focus of The Universe shifts to a grand more theoretical bend with episodes like “Parallel Universes”, “Light Run” and “Edge of Dwelling”. The topics will fascinate you and regain you thinking in a method that the past seasons didn’t quite manage.
The one misstep of The Universe would seem to be some of the less than convincing “authorities” brought in on the subject. While each and every one of them may have a knowing mind, hearing the belief of what appears to be a college astronomy major sitting on some tremendous rocks doesn’t exactly absorb the audience with confidence that every share of information is to be taken at its word. The display has plenty of challenging things to say, but they really ought to have found slightly more credible sources (or at least had the sources they archaic appear professional) to place any contrarian arguments to rest. It’s not a total failure on the show’s fraction, but with so many astronomy experts out there it seems unnecessary to determine – even if they were unprejudiced trying to inject a cramped bit of youth into the proceedings; the injection isn’t notable though. To judge that an audience would assume shrimp at a note exploring some of the deepest darkest secrets of our universe for not featuring a variety of ages amongst the experts objective seems ridiculous. Fair like any share on World War II, the better is the most informed – age be damned.
On Blu-ray the 3D models attain mixed appearances. In some instances the graphics sight phenomenal and elevate the indicate to its superior scale. Other times, the renderings objective don’t quite meet the 1080p demands and a bit of pixilation becomes visible. Unlike a special effects slathered feature, this shortcoming isn’t as damaging in a series of lectures on space; certain we sight, but the images are complementary to the words, not vice versa. Instead of being upset with the note for sometimes failing graphically, it’s easier to marvel at the visual aids provided for such riveting material. There’s an almost indiscernible boost in quality in CGI archaic for the 3D models but it’s there and it promises satisfactory things for the series’ future endeavors in explaining and exploring concepts for which we have no staunch footage.
Blu-ray Bonus Features:
The first season’s extra feature is an in-depth documentary about the vast bang. It’s a inspiring subject that warrants hours and hours of examination, but you’ll have to decide for one. For season two, a singular featurette casts a spotlight on the grass root community of the astronomy field: “Backyard Astronomers”. You might not be so moved as to go out and capture a telescope for your home, but the featurette is as fascinating and compelling as the rest of the season and well worth your time. Season three’s offerings aren’t quite so feature-based but instead offers a cramped cache that they’ve affectionately titled “Universe Facts”. It’s exactly what it sounds like, but what’s better is the photo gallery which is absolutely mindblowing.

One thing about “The Shield” is how well the reveal holds up on multiple viewings. It’s probably because of the attention to detail and the numerous anecdote arcs going on in any single episode. This continues to be the case in the 7th and final season of the present.

Season 7 finds Det. Vic Mackey, at the slay of the line. Season 6 finished with Vic walking out on his last chance to sustain his job with the LAPD and making a deal with passe police Captain, now wannabe-Mayor Aciveda to remove down the hooked developer who has been bankrolling Aciveda’s political career. Meanwhile, Vic’s strike team is beginning to near apart at the seams, all of their primitive unpleasant deeds are bubbling to the surface, and on top of that Vic’s ex-wife and daughter are apprehensive of him. Vic’s a dirty cop with a perverted sense of justice. He thinks that if he can nail this curved developer AND occupy down the Armenian mob, it will build up for all the ghastly things he has done.
The season plays out almost as a tragedy, and is the strongest season of the Shield since the considerable season 3. Watching these episodes again, I’m most struck by the relationship between Dutch and Capt. Wymms. Both actors do terrific work as seemingly the only people in the precinct who seem to care about Mackey’s abuses, and the quest to bring him down strains them to the breaking point.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The Shield: Season Seven – The Final Act! Click Here
The rest of the cast is solid as always. David Rees Snell, who plays Ronnie Gardocki on the strike team, shows a whole lot more here than he has in the past. But the steady standouts are Michael Chiklis as Mackey, and Walt Goggins as his longtime best friend/failed protege Shane Vendrell. Goggins is outstanding in the final episodes. He’s done heinous things and he can barely live with himself, yet he continues on to try and succor his wife and children.
The point to ends in about the only logical site it could slay. The last three episodes in particular are shattering. The writing, acting, and direction are all improbable, and “The Shield” goes out on a highly satisfying and emotional peak. A must gain.
The Shield’s final season is uncompromising as mature ghosts continue to complicate lives in farmington. Every moment of this season remains focused on the impending demolish, and long time viewers are rewarded as the major area points arrive to a head and pay off. This was not a quickie urge job to waste the legend, every member of the cast moves with deliberate and in some cases desperate urgency.
The season is topped off by one of the most satsifying endings I have seen in a television explain. It’s a credit to the writers and actors interested that I can pity a character I despised an episode earlier, or that a complex character like Vic Mackey can charm his method through a horrific dialogue.
If you’ve been watching the Shield, don’t miss the final season.

Commissar Movie Streaming. Movie Title: Commissar
Average customer review:
Commissar is available for streaming or downloading.
Based on the anecdote “In The Town Of Berdichev” by the vast Ukrainian Jewish writer Vasily Grossman (author of “Life And Fate”), this film was originally shot in 1967. It was “shelved” for over 20 years by being denied funds for its completion, finally coming to light in the Glasnost era.
It concerns a woman commissar (military political officer) named Vavilova in a Red Army cavalry unit during the Russian Civil War of 1918-20. She finds herself pregnant to a fellow officer who has recently been killed, and is billeted with a dreadful Jewish tinker, Magazannik, his wife and six kids. From her initial hostility to her unusual surroundings, she eventually becomes eager in the life of the family, before giving birth to her child – and then disappearing to join the first Red Army unit that passes her scheme.
It’s not difficult to understand why the Soviet authorities didn’t want this film to be seen. Besides the fact that Grossman wrote the unique memoir (he died in 1964 after falling from favour when he submitted “Life And Fate” for publication in 1960), the ambivalence between her roles as agent of the Revolution and mother of her child would have been more than the Soviet censors could have tolerated.

This is one of the most titillating war films that I have ever seen.
Komissar is a movie very dear to me. I watched this for the first time in my life in November 1989, in Romania. I was quite young, Ceaucescu had his last Communist Party Congress – he was to drop with a (literal) bang soon, in December 1989. I smooth remember how frightened I was that the Communist censors allowed this fabulous anti-Communist movie into the cinemas… it must have been ignorance rather than courage.

This 1967 movie was banned during its believe time, the director Askoldov never made a movie again, his very life was in misfortune for a while. Even as behind as 1987, in full-blown perestroika, he had troubles to accumulate his movie out of the censors’ hands. Finally he could do it, and the movie was a triumph with international critics and audiences.
If you fill this is an traditional, half-boring movie, the main quality of which would be that it was brave for its contain time, assume again. This is a poetic masterpiece which endures fantastically well the test of time. If you only like American movies, avoid this. If you’re reasonably cultivated movies-wise, if you like Dreyer, Fellini, Carne, Kadar, and the like, by all means, do not allow yourselves to die before watching this movie. Askoldov, the director of one and only serious movie, is on the same level with the ones named above. Apologies for the apparently shrill sale pitch, but yes, this is a one-of-a-kind masterwork. It is deep, tragic, subtle, it deals with the ethics and chaos of war, without the gore nor the guts. I would station this movie on the same pedestal as I dwelling Kadar’s (also new) The Shop on Main Street.

A few words about this particular edition, which made me throw the worn, worn-out VHS tape to the garbage: it is unbelievable as well. Everything is ideal. (OK, the English translation could have been better, perhaps.) The transfer, both in its video and audio aspects (terrific soundtrack from a young Schnittke!!) made me experience this, on a plasma TV, like I was succor in the cinema.
What was even more unexpectedly capable and qualified was the second DVD, containing special features. I have never seen, not even in my many beloved Criterion DVDs, such a friendly, relevant, well-made bunch of interviews – with priceless historical context, contemporary documentation and the like. Watching the special features was almost as riveting as re-watching the movie itself.
Do not rob this in any other edition. This is cinema at its lawful best, offered in an ideal packaging.
